Our Community -- Volunteering Your Talent Worldwide or Locally
Here are four examples of organizations that work tirelessly in our community. We added a link to each of them so that you can learn more about the work they do. The people involved in each of these organizations will tell you how good it feels to get involved in a community organization that helps people. Partners in Health>> The PIH Vision: Whatever it takes - At its root, their mission is both medical and moral. It is based on solidarity, rather than charity alone. When a person in Peru, or Siberia, or rural Haiti falls ill, PIH uses all of the means at its disposal to make them well—from pressuring drug manufacturers, to lobbying policy makers, to providing medical care and social services. Whatever it takes. Just as you would do if a member of your own family—or you yourself—were ill. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society>> Fighting Blood Cancers - One person can make a difference! YOU can be that person! Volunteers play a key role in helping to propel the Society in its relentless quest for a cure. LLS values its volunteers and depends on them. Volunteers throughout the United States and Canada are involved in every facet of the organization's operations. The Los Angeles (and other cities) Burrito Project>> started in January 2006 with two riders and 90 burritos. They now have over 20 riders who contribute to the project and feed 300 to 400 people weekly. Burrito Project is a group of friends that make and hand out bean and rice burritos to the homeless. Burrito Project is not affiliated with any church and has absolutely no agenda but to hang out and feed the hungry. There is no no fame, no faces, an organization with no leader or headquarters. They would rather profit with personal satisfaction than personal recognition. All recognition is geared to be focused on their patrons and the Burrito Project. World Impact>> World Impact is a Christian missions organization dedicated to ministering God's love in the inner cities of America. There is a need for people to help in every conceivable fashion from doing cross-cultural evangelism to mowing lawns. Please contact the World Impact location nearest to you to inquire about specific volunteer opportunities. (Please also read the Vantage Point article on Bob Engel for additional insight) |
